I really miss you Big Doc.  I hope you know honestly what kind of impact you had on my life.  You still affect me in more ways than you know.  Every time you come to my mind I try to push past the feelings of you being gone and think about the friendship I got from meeting you.  You inspire me to become something better. I was so sorry to hear about Berney. It seems like I have know him all my life. The last time I saw Berney I was 21 and living in an apartment in Houston with other roommates. Berney and two of his friends stopped by to visit. After they left I caught Berney peeping through our kitchen window. We all screamed and he took off in a hurry. If it had been anyone else I would have gotten mad, but it was hard to get mad knowing Berney for so many years. I still laugh every time I think about it. All the girls in high school was so in love with him and he will be missed.

I am saddened to learn of Berney's untimely death. He was a friend & a fellow classmate from the time he moved to Palacios & attended East Side Elementary until I moved to Port Lavaca in the 8th grade (Feb 1956).  Berney & I were teammates in football, basketball, & track in 7th & 8th grades at PJHS. I played against him in a freshman football game in Port Lavaca in Oct, 1956. It was a pitched battle from beginning to end with Berney leading the way for the Hornets. That was the last time I saw or talked to him. I'm happy for his success in later years.  I know he worked very hard to achieve what he did. I remember Berney as a fine person & a fine competitor  My sincerest condolences to all his family & his many friends.  May God bless Berney, his family & friends.

Berney was a good friend to me and a cherished member of my precious Class of 60 family. Recently at my dear husband's funeral he valiantly went up during the "sharing" portion of the service and offered his help and sympathy to me who he characterized as someone he had known and cared about for most of our lives. He continued with kind words of praise for my husband. This was the best of Berney...willing to offer help, generous of heart and spirit. Many can attest to these sterling traits of his character. I will miss Berney and cannot imagine how this old world will keep on turning without his unique presence. My most sincere condolences heart to heart to his family. I was devastated when the weather prohibited my attending his service today. God be with us all.

Sending prayers and condolences to all Berney's family and friends. 
We've lost a good friend. He always had a big warm smile for everyone.
The ice storm kept many of us from being present at the memorial service today. We were all present in our spirits.

I was very sad to hear of Berney's death. It brought back many PHS memories.  Berney was such a love and he was so kind to everyone.  Seems like yesterday my Dad (Dr. Sanford) was writing letters for him to go to medical school.  He was proud of Berney's accomplishments.  Berney will remain a fond memory in my heart.  Prayers are with each family member, even those I did not know.

I am so sorry for your loss.  I will miss picking up the phone to hear Berney on the other end of the line.  I am sure he is sitting with Charles and Betty entertaining them one of his stories. May he rest in peace.

What a Guy - - -handsome, fun, outrageous, tenacious, bigger than life, a Legend!  He leaves a gigantic void in our PHS Class of 1960.   At reunions he shared family stories, especially about his grandchildren  He loved all of you dearly.  Only an ice storm that closed freeways could keep many of us from being with you at his service.  We are with you in spirit.

Everyone knew that Berney was always fun to be around; I personally liked him because he was "personable."  I remember him best through football practice:  I was never very good, but I could tackle Berney (sometimes).  I remember him saying after one such successful one; "Hey, hey....John Harper!"  He made me feel like one of the team better than anyone else.  A good guy;... may God Bless.

Tom and I send condolences and sympathy in the loss of your loved one.  We knew of "Uncle Bernie" through our brother-in-law, Johnny Stafford (nephew) and Elsie Stafford (sister).  He was blessed to have both of those family members in his life, especially after he moved to Victoria.

To Berney’s family.  My condolences to all of you on Berney's passing.  I have never met any of you, but would like to share a story with you that has been tucked away in my mind for many years.  Berney was a friend of my older sister and as a child, I would hang with all the “older” crowd at a local meeting place in Palacios.  One night one of the older guys decided it was time to pick on the little “squirt” who seemed always to be around (and I am sure I was being a pest).  Anyway, Berney saw what was happening and approached the guy and in the way that only Berney could, “convinced” the guy to leave me alone.  He then came up to me and told me that he would always have my back and if I ever needed his help, just to let him know.  I won’t forget that, even though it was many years ago,  and I won’t forget Berney.  My he rest in peace and please know that he was loved by many people.
