Callie Mae was passionate about her family. She was a homemaker who loved raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren. She had the ability to make friends wherever she went. Her quick smile, giving nature, and joyous love of people made an impact on so many, even some who had only met her once.
Callie Mae was an avid gardener. It was said of her that she could plant a broomstick and it would grow. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, including many blankets for family members. She had a sharp wit and greatly enjoyed having fun and playing games. Callie Mae had an affinity for bookkeeping, and had a career working in the tax office for Victoria County when the children were grown. She loved to read, and traveled when she could.
Callie Mae had a love of music, and she was often heard humming a tune. She played the organ at St. John Lutheran in Robstown, sang for funerals and weddings and also sang in the choir at First English Lutheran Church in Victoria, Texas. Her and Del Roy’s love of music and musical talents were passed along to all of her children, and continues being passed on in the family today.
Church was central in Callie’s life. She taught Sunday school, served on many committees, was a Stephen Minister, served as a visiting minister for the homebound and at local hospitals, and was an active participant of Via de Christo. In addition, she was a nurturing soul who individually helped people who needed transportation to medical facilities, a small loan, or just a hug and a kind word.
She will be remembered with great love.
