Carolyn Ann Hobbs Goldman, 70, passed into eternal rest on Monday, September 19, 2016, with her loving family by her side. She not only fought a courageous battle with breast cancer, but suffered from bone metastasis throughout her body, especially the lower vertebra area, which gave her great pain. She was born on July 14, 1946 at DeTar Hospital in Victoria, Texas, to Loretta Staff Hobbs and the late James Edward Hobbs. She grew up in Victoria attending Nazareth Academy, an all-girls private elementary and high school. In her junior year of high school, she entered the convent of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word to study and dedicate her life to God and service. During those formative years in the convent, Carolyn continued her education, graduating from Nazareth Academy, Annunciation College, and Hugh Memorial Hospital Nursing School. Upon nursing graduation, she worked as an emergency room supervisor at Huth Hospital. After spending several years in the religious life, Carolyn left the convent, only to have been touched and inspired by the good sisters during her journey with them. She loved the community of sisters so dearly, she kept in contact with many of them, as well as those who were former members of the congregation. After moving back to her parent’s home in Victoria, she continued her nursing career as an office nurse for the late Dr. Pattie Mae Dodson, a well-known and respected pediatrician.
Carolyn met Donald Goldman when he visited the Clinic’s Medical Laboratory. There was an instant attraction, followed by several months of dating and an engagement. They were married on February 7, 1976, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the same church where she was baptized and confirmed in her Catholic faith. After the birth of her first child, Carolyn was fortunate to retire from nursing and become a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. Her life centered around her three loving children, treasuring every moment as she watched them grow, learn, and become successful individuals. Her family and home were truly her life’s pleasure and joy.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Donald, of 40 years of marriage; daughter, Ann Robinson and husband Mark; son, J. Lyn Goldman and wife Brooke; daughter, Erin Frazier and husband Aaron; three precious granddaughters, Leighton Goldman, Bennett Goldman, and Ainsley Frazier; and two sweet step-grandsons, Zeke and Eli Robinson.
She is also survived by her mother, Loretta Hobbs; brother, Roger Hobbs and wife Linda; sisters, Joan Moritz and husband Everette, Sandy Harris and husband Peter, Linda Bryant and husband Ronnie and Susan Snow; two maternal aunts, Mary Ann Wright and Anna Abner; her Goldman sisters-in-law, Marie Hawes, Marilyn Giessel, and Katherine Klingle, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her father, James Hobbs; brother, David Hobbs; maternal grandparents, Marie and Francis Staff; paternal grandparents, Hannah and Hurshell Hobbs and in-laws, Ann and Merlyn Goldman.
A visitation with the family will be on Thursday, September 22, 2016, from 5 – 7 pm followed by a scriptural rosary at 7 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, September 23, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
