There are times when you lose touch with someone or their family, decades pass, only to be reminded of the impact that person had on your life when you learn of their passing. That was Mrs. Welfl and her husband Pat! My association with the family was thru the CYO as a young teenager in the early days of Holy Family Catholic Church. I learned to water ski behind the Welfl’s 16’ Glastron boat powered by a 70 hp outboard on Coleto Creek Reservoir. Why I remember that amount of detail at the age of 58 is beyond me, but that’s the kind of lasting impact that Mrs. Welfl made. Being involved in the CYO and guiding teens takes a special person. Thank you for being outgoing and keeping us young spirits involved! God Bless you, Pat and your family.

Rest in God’s Eternal Easter Peace, Dear Sister and Mom Gladys from Your Dear Victoria Next Door Neighbors – The Martinez Family!  Our deepest condolences to Wade, Sandi, Vicky, your spouses, your families and children!  Happily reunite with Pat, Mom and Dad, and Johnny!  You were truly another mother for us Martinez boys!  We’ll never forget how you welcomed us that first day to Greenwood-Nimitz…knocking on our door, bearing a full plate of homemade cookies! We’ll also never forget how you cared for Mom...introducing her to Alma and Ruth…giving her new sisters in Victoria with our being away from family in Kingsville.  Mom never forgot that, even mentioning this memory last few weeks of her journey here on earth this past February.  Y’all left Greenwood, and we stayed…yet we were gloriously reunited during those happy CYO days of the early eighties! You were a teacher of our faith as well as one cool Mom to us! I’ll never forget how you and Pat sponsored Mom and Dad’s Marriage Encounter weekend…having the four of us Martinez boys stay with you!  The steak fingers you made were excellent, and I’ll never forget how you jammed with us to Donna Summer’s Bad Girls in the Suburban!!!  We never lost track of you or Pat over the years, adoring you two as our parents all the while.  I have enclosed my last two pictures with Gladys….one at your Victoria home over the 2019 holidays the other from August 2014…a memory I’ll never forget when you tapped on my back and said, “Is your name Jimmy?”  What a joy it was to be remembered and reunited with you and Pat at the Church Festival in Yoakum! My dear friend, so many memories of our families together over the many years.  Pulling the cotton sacks and waiting for cold water at end of the row.  All the "bad" things you taught me!  I had no siblings in my family but I always considered *you* to be my sister.  Your wedding was on my birthday, I'll always remember that, and you.  Rest in peace.

Gladys was very faithful in attending our ECHS reunions.  It was a joy to interact with her.  I enjoyed our phone conversations during the planning of our reunions.
