Gladys Jean Welfl, 84 of Victoria passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at her daughter’s residence. She was born May 9, 1939 in El Campo, TX to John and Bertha Socha Shimek, the middle child with older sister Evelyn Nix and younger brother Larry Shimek.
Gladys graduated from El Campo High School and went to Wharton Jr College, receiving her LVN license.
She married Pat Welfl on November 14,1959 and were married for 56 years.
Pat and Gladys were charter member of Holy Family Catholic Church where Gladys served on the first parish board, CYO and conducted CCD classes in her home. Continuing her service to the church in 1981 she became active with ACTS, Bible Study, Altar Society and was a greeter and worked the information booth.
After 43 years Gladys retired and started playing cards, Bunco and Bingo.
She is survived by her daughters Sandi L. Copes (Scott) of Pearland, Vicki S. Adair (Don) of Pflugerville; son Wade Eric Welfl of Victoria; and grandchildren Hayden, Austin, Chase, Will, Kaden and Averi.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Patrick Welfl; her sister Evelyn Nix a grandson Trevor Cole and a brother, Larry Shimek.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7 pm. Funeral Mass is 10 am on Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
