May 20, 1933 – May 16, 2021
Born in Plainview, Texas to the late Myrtle Esther Holley Hill and Sidney Hill.
Glendon is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ryon Hill; children, Glynis Farmer (Joe) of Victoria, Darryl Hill (Heather Marie) of Houston; grandchildren, Christopher Farmer, Jennifer Farmer, Kelsie Salena (Allen) all of Victoria and his great-grandchildren, Kamryn, Saylor and Noland Salena.
Glendon is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Dorothy Worley, Wilma Massey and Betty Sue Kedy.
Glendon grew up in the Texas Panhandle. At a young age, he attended the Cal Farley Boys Ranch around Amarillo. There he learned how to work cows, grow a garden and how to be a man. He spoke very fondly of these times. Many memories of that lifestyle.
At 18 years of age, Glendon joined the United Sates Army, July 31, 1951. Glendon proudly served his country during the Korean War. Glendon was Honorably Discharged June 19, 1954.
Glendon started his work career at King Fisher Marine Service, Port Lavaca, Texas, 1957. He was the Purchasing Agent for KFMS for many years. Not only was he buying parts and equipment for the Company, he made morning call to all dredges, tugs and barges. His voice was heard all over the Gulf Coast for many years until his retirement. Glendon retired from KFMS after 45 years, in 2002.
In 1958, Glendon married the Love of his life, Phyllis Ryon. Lived in Seadrift Texas, before moving to Port Lavaca, then onto Victoria. Married for 63 years until his passing. If there was ever a pattern to follow, this marriage would be one. He expressed his love in many different ways, some very subtle.
After retiring from KFMS in 20002, Glendon did the things he loved. Being with family and friends. Playing dominos on Wednesday nights, attending countless football, baseball, basketball and volleyball games of his grandchildren and watching Darryl coach his girls’ basketball teams and high school football games. No matter where he went, no matter what kids he was watching, all the kids from all the sports made some connection with him. It was a beautiful sight to see.
Visitation is Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 6-8 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services are Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 10 AM at John Wesley United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Seadrift Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Joe Farmer, Darryl Hill, Christopher Farmer, Allen Salena, Matt Searcy and Glenn Kurtz.
