Gordon met the love of his life, Mary, while he was driving through town and she was going home from a dance in Shiner in 1967. The couple was married on March 22, 1969 in Gonzales, Texas and they started a family.
Gordon always had a passion for cars. He started selling at the age of 18, while also working at a gas station and automotive parts store. After he graduated from high school in 1963, he moved to Houston and went to school at De Montrond Buick for two years. He worked at Cameron Ironworks and continued to sell cars on the side. In 1971, the family moved to Hallettsville and he accepted a job with Voskamp Motors. Gordon was in Time Magazine in 1972 as one of the top salesmen for Ford Industries in the Houston District. He also received other awards and honors. He started Gordon’s Auto Sales in 1974 and has had businesses in Hallettsville, Shiner, Schulenburg, and Victoria. Throughout his lifetime, he collected many classic cars and hotrods. He loved going to car shows, swap meets, car races and Louisiana. Gordon never met a stranger and would trade for anything except another wife. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a strong love for his family and all of his friends that he made.
