Joseph F. Kalmus Sr., born in Hallettsville, Texas on March 4th 1934, was welcomed by his Lord and Savior on March 1st, 2026. Joe married Dorothy Kalmus (Vinick) in 1961, and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage together. A proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Carrie and Theo; siblings, Louis, Victor, Julius, Lillian (Kolacny), Lorene (Barton); son, Joe Kalmus Jr., and grandson, Corey Kalmus. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Richard (Zina); daughter, Cyndi (Ron) Kreger; sister, Caroline Grahmann; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
On the weekends Joe loved to drive around the countryside to check on the crops and animals at the family farm. He was very proud of his Czech heritage and learned how to play the accordion as a young man, leading him to love Polka music his entire life.Joe loved to take his sweetheart Dorothy to as many dances as possible.
In addition to being a stout Catholic and avid deer hunter, Joe loved playing dominos with his family over a cold Pivo. His greatest joy was teaching his grandchildren and great grandchildren the game of Shoot The Moon. Joe was also a diehard Cowboys and Astros fan, rarely missing a game.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 16, 2026 from 9:00am - 9:30am, with rosary beginning at 9:30am at Holy Family Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00am, with interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Kalmus, Jr., Michael Barton, Jared Kalmus, Colton Kalmus, Ryan Tuso and Matthew Tuso.
