During the years of 1954-1957, when Katie’s husband was stationed in Germany, Katie “kept the home fires burning” by working, tending their home and taking care of their children. Katie’s home was known as a gathering place where on any day, you would find any number of the neighborhood children playing games and having fun. While in Rockport, their home served as a meeting place for their church. In her later years, Katie also spent much time caring for her mother, Nona Whiddon.
She is survived by her brothers, Bill Whiddon of Decatur and Dorsey D. Whiddon of West Tawakomi; her sister, Mary Lou Umphres of Victoria; son, Dwight Neitch of Victoria, son, Kenneth Neitch of Boerne; daughter, Candessa Staff of Westminster, CO; and son, Travis Neitch of Seguin; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. Katie loved children. Her grandchildren brought her great joy in her later years.
Katie was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Herman Lee Roy Neitch; her daughter, Kathy Schreppel; her son, Greg Neitch; her sisters, Lois Moran, Florence McCoy and Betty Jo McLester; and her brother, Charles Ray Whiddon.
