Kay Talley Colwell Ohrt, 76, passed away surrounded by her family on October 15, 2023. Kay was born March 17, 1947 in Seguin, TX to the late Bertha Margaret Coates and James Ewing Talley Jr. Kay lived in Kingsbury until 1949 and then moved to Nixon at the age of two. She was baptized at the age of 8 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nixon. Kay graduated from Nixon High School in 1965, Southwest Texas State College in 1968 with a bachelor’s in education and continued her education and graduated with a master’s in education in 1969. Kay taught in many different schools and retired in 2001 after 31 years of teaching. Kay was also a member of Northside Baptist Church in Victoria for many years.
Kay is survived by her husband of 24 years, Dean Ohrt; sons, Jeffrey Colwell (Bryan Branch) of Houston, Joel Colwell (Teri) of Cypress; step-sons, Jason Ohrt (Marigayle) of Mission Valley, Patrick Ohrt (Ashley) of Mission Valley and Jared Ohrt (Andrea) of Houston. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Justin Colwell, Trevor Colwell, Ryan Colwell, Tyler Colwell, Dylan Ohrt, Megan Ohrt, Bryanna Branch, Nathaniel Branch, William Ohrt, Weston Ohrt and great-granddaughter, Macie Colwell to cherish her memory.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Don Allen Talley and Terry Talley.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 18, 2023 from 5-7 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel.
Funeral Services are Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 10 AM St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Meyersville with burial to immediately follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery also in Meyersville.
Pallbearers are Justin Colwell, Trevor Colwell, Ryan Colwell, Tyler Colwell, Dylan Ohrt, Nathaniel Branch, Jeff Sproles and Mike Hovey.
Honorary pallbearers are Megan Ohrt, Bryanna Branch, William and Weston Ohrt.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Texas or St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
