

Larry’s life was defined by his devotion to his family and friends. He loved growing pecan and fruit trees, tending a garden big enough to feed all of Victoria, fishing in his pond on his property at Big Brushy Acres, and playing dominoes with his buddies in El Campo. He was known for some of the best bar-b-que chicken and ribs in the area. He was a man with a big heart that will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church and the Knights of Columbus. He retired from Union Carbide in 1994 after 38 years of service.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Anna Popp Knebel, his daughters, Debbie (Darrell) Janecek of Victoria, Sandy McGee of McKinney and Cheryl (Mike) Shafer of Sugarland; his four grandchildren, Chris Janecek, Eric (Mandy) Janecek, Lexi Shafer and Annie McGee; his great grandson, Jack Janecek, his step grandchildren, Natalie (Jess) Gingrich, Tenille (Kyle) Adamcik; his step great grandchildren, Caityn and Grant Adamcik, Zachary and Emery Gingrich. Survivors also include his brothers, Richard (Bell) Knebel of Victoria and Jerome (Ella Mae) Knebel of Hillje; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Fred Knebel.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, June 26, 2012 from 6-7 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7 PM. A funeral mass will be held 10 AM, Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Hillje. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Service as pallbearers will be Randy Knebel, Steven Knebel, Donnie Knebel, B.J. Knebel, Dwayne Courville, Will Mitchell, Tony Knebel and Brian Popp.
Honorary pallbearers will be Louie Kramer, Gordon Beatty, Sam Rippamonti and the Hillje/Louise birthday club.
The family would like to thank the nurses of Citizen’s Hospital, 6 North, Doctors Peter Nguyen, Ty Meyer, Terry Whitehouse and Hassan Sabbagh. A very special thanks to the caring and supportive staff at Hospice of South Texas and the very special care given to him by his caregivers, Letty, Celeste and Sheila.
