Louis J. Bitterly, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grand father and a follower of Christ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at the age of 93. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and was a WWII veteran. After returning home, he met and married the love of his life, Vergie Bruns on November 4, 1951 and together they raised 6 children. He also had a 38 year career with NL McCullough Tool Company, and retired at 58 to enjoy the life of leisure. Although he is no longer with us, we will always cherish the love, laughter and wisdom he has instilled in all of us! Louis is survived by his wife, Vergie Bitterly; sons, David Bitterly (Norma) and Jerry Bitterly (Dottie); daughters, Katherine Howard (Dale), Cheryl Neese (Robert Laguarta), and Theresa Ruddick (Ed); 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren, and sister, Ruby Schrade. He will be reunited in heaven with his parents; son, Richard Bitterly; and one sister and brother. The family would like to thank the staff at Elmcroft for their wonderful care and compassion. As well as Hospice of South Texas and Texas Home Health. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Our Lady of Victory – Building Fund or Hospice of South Texas. My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Bitterly, Jerry & Dottie , & all the family .
I'm sorry for your loss. In reading the beautiful loving tributes for Mr Bitterly , it takes me back to August 2020 when we lost a great man ,my father-in-law, Raymond Spann at age 97. I'm sure they both crossed paths in Victoria . Our families were definitely Blessed to have these men from the greatest generation in our lives as a loving husband, father , grandfather, great grandfather and for me the most precious father in law .
My thoughts & prayers are with you as you all begin to navigate this loss .
May God bring you comfort and peace . Sincerely Donna (Thieme)Spann

Mr. Bitterly was such a happy man. Always had a smile and a joyful laugh. We shared a love of the oilfield as he worked for McCullough and I worked for Baker Oil Tools. When he can to out warehouse to pick up tools, he would always come into the office to say hello. Rest in peace Mr. Bitterly. You left your mark in the Oilfield.

-If you cannot see past this right now, the future seems overwhelming, it is fine. It’s a lot to deal with. And remember it is going to pass and in time will be replaced with the memories of the times you laughed and happy times you spent together.
So sorry for the loss of one loved by all!!

I want to thank the family for all the pictures I enjoyed the memories so much. I remember all the times we all spent on our Grandparents farm. I love the memories of all us kids standing in line taking our turn to turn the ice cream maker. I can see Uncle Louis and his family coming down the road to Grannie and Grandpas house everyone waving out the windows when we saw each other. What a fun life we had as kids.Love you Uncle Louis and Aunt Virgie❤️

It was always fun watching the reel to reel home movies that he would make . Uncle Louis had a laugh that was always so funny to me and never be forgotten . Growing up enjoyed spending the summers with them . Miss walking into Whataburger and seeing them eating there . He will be truly missed . Janice Schrade Urban
