Margaret M. Filla Kucera, of Victoria, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 21, 2025 at the age of 86. She was born in Inez, Texas on February 9, 1939, to the late John August Filla and Annie H. Matejicek Filla. She graduated from Patti Welder High School in 1957. While in high school she played volleyball and was named Ms. Wood High in the Farm Bureau Queen contest. She and her siblings were raised on a farm where they picked cotton, raised cattle, pigs, and chickens. Margaret had 2 brothers and 5 sisters and they all enjoyed singing and harmonizing while doing chores. Margaret especially liked singing and harmonizing on the school bus with her cousin. She also loved to dance at the Inez Community Hall where she met the love of her life, August Kucera. They dated for two years before marrying on January 11, 1957. They were married for 65 wonderful years. Margaret was a faithful member of Our Lady of Victory Cathedral where she was a member of the Alter Society. Her first job was working for the telephone company in Victoria which is so appropriate for her since her favorite thing to do was to talk. She began babysitting once her youngest daughter went off to school. She babysat hundreds of children for 30 years. She was also an Avon representative for 45 years. She loved selling Avon because she made so many friends and she loved to talk. She always had to have her makeup on and hair done no matter if she was going anywhere or not. You never saw her without lipstick on. Some of her other favorite hobbies were mall walking, shopping, watching QVC, decoupaging pictures, working in the flower beds, flower arranging, baking and volunteering at the elementary school library where her children went to school. Her favorite past time was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved babies and talked about her great-grandbabies all the time and always had her phone ready to show pictures of them.
She is survived by her children Donna Mitchell (Laurens), Gery Kucera (Jeannie) and Kim Hessler (Gary). She leaves behind five grandchildren: Zak Kucera, Tiffany McGregor (Kellen), Genafer Kucera (Tommy); Travis Hessler (Rhea Lea) and Tyler Hessler (Christina). She is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Aiden Kucera, Tripp Hessler, Rennon Hessler, and Emersyn Hessler. She is survived by her sister Rosie Kouba and brother Adolph Filla (Tula) as well as a brother-in-law Edward Martinka and sister-in-law Diane Kucera and many nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents (John Filla & Annie Matejicek Filla); her loving husband, August L.
