Marie Estelle Moore Worsham was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, December 06, 2012 at the age of 87. She was born on April 25, 1925 to the late John Chester “Papa” and Vernie Estelle Moore in Dorsey, Itawamba Co., Mississippi. She was the third eldest of 17 children and was raised in a loving family who took great pleasure in playing music and singing together.
She and her late husband, Kenard “Pete” Worsham were married on December 14, 1941 in Marked Tree, Arkansas and were the parents of 5 children. During the war, while “Pete” was serving in the Army in the European Theater, she worked on the night shift at an ammunitions factory in St. Louis, Missouri inspecting bullets to be used in the war effort. For a few years after WWII, she worked as a beautician. Later, they traveled over much of the United States following construction work and during one of the pipeline jobs that “Pete” worked on, they lived on a Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona. During the many hours spent traveling from state to state, they passed much of the time singing duets, mostly the old gospel songs. They settled in Victoria in 1957 and raised their family here. She attended Crestwood Baptist Church and Northside Baptist Church and was active in Sunday school, WMU and Vacation Bible Schools. She was the owner and operator of the Woodlawn Bowing Center for a number of years.
