

Paavo E. Karttunen, 89, of Victoria, passed away July 26, 2012. He was born September 8, 1922, in Kemi, Finland. A United States immigrant from Finland in 1942, he was a proud World War II Army Veteran. He and his wife of 61 years lived in New Mexico many years before they moved from Alto, NM to Victoria, TX in 2010.
He is survived by his wife, Ineta Karttunen, Victoria; son, Gary Karttunen, Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Janet Lyon, and son-in-law, Jeff Lyon, Victoria; three grandchildren, Faith Ivory, Chandler, AZ, Amy Karttunen, Las Vegas, NV, and Evan Lyon, Victoria; eight great-grandchildren; nephew Martti Karttunen, Kemi, Finland; and numerous cousins in Finland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Olavi Karttunen and Eino Karttunen, and grandson, Dustin Lyon.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am Monday, July 30, 2012, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, Rev. Larry Green officiating. Flag folding under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will follow.
