

Ramona Lee (Mitchell) Pickle passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017. She was born August 4, 1931 in Dallas to the late Roger Hon and Dorothy Lee (Green) Mitchell. She married Jack Richard Pickle July 10, 1951. Ramona was the Ex-Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the County Secretary of the Republican Party for 25 years. She was the first graduate of the University of Houston, Victoria, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History, and later earned a Master of Arts degree in Educational Curriculum from UHV. She worked at Region 3 Educational Service Center, and taught at Nazareth Academy for many years. Upon her retirement, Ramona spent much of her time working in her church library, reading countless books, playing Bridge with two different clubs, doing needlework, traveling, digging up dead relatives (genealogy), watching baseball and enjoying her puppy dogs.
The Pickle family traveled the world together, visiting most of the countries in Europe, Great Britain, Mexico and the Middle East, and many states in the US. They live in several cities in the United States in Texas, Delaware, West Virginia, California, and overseas in Dordrecht, Holland before settling in Victoria, Texas.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary Kathleen and Sarah Eileen, both of Victoria, and Deborah Laureen of Omaha, NE; brother, Michael Mitchell (Tricia) of San Antonio; sister, Judy (Mitchell) Rowland of Austin; two grandson, David (Velvia) and John Keithley; three great-granddaughters, Ashlea Nicole (Stephen) Zadaks, Johanna Keithley and Meisje Keithley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; infant son, David; and brother, Roddy Mitchell.
Visitation will be from Monday, July 10, 2017 from 9 – 11 am at Rosewood Funeral Chapel followed by a funeral service at 11 am, with Rev. David Hudson officiating. A reception will follow at Baptist Temple.
Burial will be Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Oakwood Cemetery in Tyler, Texas.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Keithley, John Keithley, Michael H. Mitchell, Lee Sharber, Steve Sharber and John Wayne Sharber.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Adopt-A-Pet of Victoria, 8215 Houston Highway, Victoria, Texas, 77901, the Dorothy H. O’Connor Pet Adoption Center (because she loved her puppies), 135 Progress Drive, Victoria, Texas 77905, or the library or charity of choice.
