Robert Longoria Alvarez, 95, was called by the Lord to join Him and his family in heaven on January 10, 2026. He was a loving husband, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother and loyal friend. He held his family first and foremost in his heart, and lived his life caring for them until Our Lord and Savior called him. He will always be remembered lovingly and fondly for his dedication to his family and those he loved, his never-ending and undying strength, and his astute business sense that led him to become a successful contractor in an era that posed challenges he determinedly overcame.
Robert was born February 26, 1930 to both the late Alfred and Josefina Alvarez in Corpus Christi, Texas and was raised in Woodsboro, Texas. He served in the United States Navy and later married the love of his life, Margarita DeLaRosa. He moved throughout the state of Texas with his wife for various jobs; and while doing so, he raised several children and then eventually co-founded his construction company, A&A Construction, Inc. in Port Lavaca, Texas, which he later relocated to Victoria, Texas in 1966.
With a thriving business, wife and nine children, he managed to remain an active member of the community. He was recognized for his economic contributions to the people and city of Victoria during the grand opening ceremony for the Texas Association of Mexican American Chamber of Commerce in 1990. He was the owner of Victoria's Best Western Inn and proprietor of the commercial investments firm Robert Alvarez Properties. He was also a consultant to firms owned by his sons: Alvarez and Associates Construction Co. and Texas Southern Inc., a local trucking firm. He served as a member of the board of directors of Citizens National Bank, as well as on the boards of Citizens Medical Center, St, Joseph High School, the Sierra Club and Sembradores de Amistad. He also dedicated his time as a member of the Diocese of Victoria's building committee and the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree. The effort he gave of himself to his family and the community knew no boundaries.
In addition to all of his accomplishments, he also enjoyed various hobbies to include fishing and hunting with his family and friends; and traveling the world with his beautiful wife. He made many donations to the Diocese of Victoria, as well as to other notable charities and organizations.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a brother (Alfred), a sister (Evangelina Salinas), a son (Damian) and two grandsons (Michael Monahan and John Manuel Alvarez), and two great-grandsons (Joseph Alvarez and Bowen Robert Pitzer). He is survived by two sisters (Stella Pasahow and Mary Lou Elizaldi), eight children, Bob Alvarez (DeAnna); Matt Alvarez (LeAnne); Mark Alvarez; George Alvarez; Margie Braden (Jim); Jim Alvarez (Roberta); Suzie Alvarez (Larry Weis); and Kathy Seekamp (Steve); 27 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church from 11:30am-12:30pm, followed by a Rosary at 12:30pm being said by Fr. Albert Yankey. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1pm with Fr. Patrick Knippenberg, Fr. Albert Yankey, and Fr. Gabriel Oduro Tawiah co-officiating. Entombment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum immediately following the Mass.
Pallbearers are Bob Alvarez, Mark Alvarez, Jim Alvarez, Larry Weis, Steve Seekamp, Steve Garza and Norman Garza. Honorary Pallbearers are his grandsons and members of the Knights of Columbus Council #1329.
