Poko met his wife, Sharon, at the Country Inn in Victoria. They were married for more than forty-two years. They enjoyed time together at the river, in Seadrift, taking countless trips to casinos and spending time with their grandchildren.
Poko was a pipefitter supervisor for many years before he retired. Poko loved the outdoors and had a passion for fishing and hunting. Many of his friends and family have countless memories of the time they shared with him. Poko taught his son, grandsons, and many kids who were like his grandchildren to hunt and fish and passed down his love for the outdoors to them. Poko was also known for his witty sense of humor. He could come up with stories to make anyone laugh, and he was the prime prankster of the family. Poko strived to be a winner in every aspect of his life, including any game he played. He always found witty ways to cheat against his family. Poko fought a long and hard battle for seven years. He had a strong will to live and adjusted his quality of life with each stage of his disease to spend more time with his family.
Poko is survived by his wife, Sharon Brubaker Maretick; his daughter, Michelle Weiss, and husband, Darren; his son, Donovan Maretick and wife, Kelly; brother, Morris Maretick and wife, Mary; and grandchildren, Travis, Kacey, Dylan, and Dawson. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who were like brothers to him.
Poko was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donna Thompson.
Friends and family are cordially invited to visit the family on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel from two to four o'clock in the afternoon. A celebration of Pokos’s life will be conducted at four o’clock in the afternoon, with Pastor Larry Green officiating the service.
