He is preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand and Inez Rivas Quintanilla; sisters, Ella Trevino and Frances Guerra and her husband, Alfred; brothers, Fernando, Florentino, Daniel, Rudy and Rene Quintanilla; and grandchildren, Derrick Quintanilla and Matthew Cisneros.

He is survived by his wife, Rosa Martinez Quintanilla; daughters, Nancy (Oscar) Cisneros and Sarah (Miguel) Capre; sons, Bobby (Cindy) Quintanilla and Jerry (Rachel) Quintanilla; sisters, Clara Rangel, Sylvia (Rick) Quintanilla, Mary Ann Trevino, Lucy (Jesse) Lerma and Janie (Rudy) Villarreal; brothers, Lorenzo (Dolores) Quintanilla and Frank (Mary) Quintanilla sister-in-law, Diane Quintanilla; brother-in-law, Daniel Trevino; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish his memory.

Sam was like a deep river – very quiet on the surface, but was philosophically deep and wise. He lived a long life and loved to tell stories about it. He had a quick wit and knew how to tell a joke. He enjoyed listening to traditional gospel music, country music and Tejano music. It was not unusual to hear him singing or whistling his favorite tunes. He had an incredible memory and it served him well until he left us.

He was a skilled carpenter who built and remodeled many homes during his career. He truly enjoyed his work and continued to craft his woodworking skills well after retirement. He designed and built many pieces of furniture for his children and extended family. He also built and donated several pieces for church raffles and auctions.

Sam was born and raised in Stockdale, TX. He was a parish member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was also a member of the Alter Society and the Cursillo Movement in the 1960’s and beyond.

In his later years, he moved to Victoria to be closer to his two oldest children and to be near his medical doctors and medical facilities. While in Victoria he made many new friends and became a parish member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Sam was strong in his faith and spent his final hours professing God’s glory and goodness to his family.
