Ginger was born on August 16,1939 to Floyd and Velma Swoap in Kenedy, Texas. She met the love of her life, Roy Henke, in 1956 and married him on August 19, 1961 in Karnes City.
Ginger was a graduate of the Class of 1957 from Kenedy High School. She was proud to share that she was voted Class Favorite of her graduating class.
She truly lived her life for her family. Roy’s career took them to a few different places but they settled in Victoria, Texas in 1969 where she lived the rest of her days.
Ginger was always very active. When she wasn’t working or taking care of her family, she loved a good game of tennis or working in her yard.
Whatever the kids activities were, she was there and then when time allowed, she gave back to her community. She loved her time and endless hours that she gave to the HEAR Foundation and she was a lifelong member of the Junior League of Victoria. Both providing her with many cherished and lifelong friendships. In her early years in Victoria, Ginger worked for South Texas Electric Coop and Region III. Once her children were grown, she went to work with Judy Murphree making the popular and cherished Hospice Angels.
Ginger is survived by her daughter Kim McGarity, her son, Keith Henke and daughter in love, Kelly. She had four amazing grandchildren, Ashley McGarity Damborsky, Connor McGarity (Kelsie), Kyle Henke and Katelinn Henke. She had 4 great grandchildren, William and James Damborsky and Parker and Reese McGarity. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Thurmond, brother Rusty Swoap, and sister-in-law, Mamie Nell Henke as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Henke, her parents, Floyd and Velma Swoap, in-laws, Julius Theodore “JT” Henke and Mary Henke and sibling, Davis “Butch” Swoap.

The family would like to recognize the love and care that Monica Sanchez gave to Ginger. She truly was a blessing! They would also like to recognize the care from Molly’s Helping Hands, Kaitlyn Cordova and Crown Hospice. As they weren’t with Ginger long, they truly made a comforting and positive impact on Ginger’s last few weeks and days.
