Virginia R. Hirsch, 92, of Victoria passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, August 31, 2024. She was born on March 28,1932 in Yoakum, TX to Andrew Jackson and Ethel Ellen Nolen. She was one of 14 children. She graduated from Cuero High School and worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator until she married the love of her life Daniel Edward Hirsch on May 23, 1953. She remained married for 63 wonderful years until the death of her beloved Daniel. Upon Dan’s retirement they traveled the world including the Holy Land and worked at three National Parks.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family and treasured the time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. As she raised her children, she loved sewing, crocheting, and cooking for her family and others. She volunteered in her children’s classrooms as well as teaching 4-H. Her other hobbies included the daily crossword puzzle, jig saw puzzles and playing dominoes and board games with her family. For a woman her age, she was very computer literate in doing her own on-line banking and surfing the internet. She was loved by all and was called a friend by many. One of the highlights of her last days was throwing out the first pitch at the Victoria Generals Game hosted by Hospice of South Texas. Her impact on the world was substantial even though she led a simple life.
One of her greatest loves was her Catholic faith and she would share it with many others. Virginia and her husband were founding members of both Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and Holy Family Catholic Church.
Her beloved family consists of: daughters, Sandra Simon (fiancé Gary Cook), Jackie Hungerford, Nancy Prichard (Steve), Teresa Diefenbach (Bill), Paula Wingate (Dale); sons, Brian Hirsch, Greg Hirsch (Gaby); 11 grandchildren: Matthew Simon, Dustin Hungerford, Megan Newton (Jerry), Luke Prichard (Hanna), Nicole Bullard (Larz), Denver Diefenbach (Lindsey), Hanna Hartman (Collin), Daniela and James Hirsch, Haley and Nola Wingate; 10 great grandchildren: Logan, Ruby, and Waylon Prichard; Adeliene, Lydia and Claire Bullard; and Aurora, Kaiden, JD and Ellen Newton.
