

Willie D. “Doug” Sanford, age 93, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012. He was born October 23, 1918 in Saltillo, Tennessee to the late Thomas E. and Mary E. White Sanford. He had worked for Amoco Production (BP Chemicals) for 42 years, retiring as a field foreman. He truly enjoyed his job and often said “his work was his hobby”. He was a Catholic. He was also a former member of the Sr. Bowling Club and a Corporal in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) for many years.
He is survived by his children: Will Sanford and wife Mary of Arlington, Sandra Frnka and husband Leroy of Columbus, Richard Sanford and wife Susan of Greenville, South Carolina, Deborah Dougherty and husband Paul of Magnolia, and Mary Fails and husband Gary of Sweeny; sisters, Eva Hancock of Bristol, OK and Patty Shamas and husband Ray of Tulsa, OK; brother, Paul Sanford and wife Patsy of Salado; 10 grandchildren: Jon Scott Sanford, Craig Sanford, Capt. Kirby Sanford, USAF, Stephen Koenig, Kimberly Koenig, Connie Sanford, Charlotte Dougherty, Nicholas Hammond, Orey Fails, and Hayden Fails; 6 great grandchildren: Stephen D. Koenig, Sarah Koenig, Sam Koenig, Marlee VanNess, Charlie Koenig-Fang, Forrest Sanford and Lily Marie Sanford; and 1 great great grandchild: Lilly Grace Koenig.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles Sanford; brothers, James Sanford, John Sanford, Robert Sanford, and Tommy O’Neal; and wife, Willie Raye Sanford.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Tuesday, April 3, 2012, with a Rosary following at 7:00 pm Tuesday at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Colonial Funeral Home with the Deacon Bennie Holesovsky officiating. Private graveside Services will follow at the Confederate Cemetery in Alvin. Serving as pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons.
