Temperance
Patience
These, as some may know, are three of the seven heavenly virtues.
And that’s what Hela Allen was. A virtuous, godly, and heavenly woman.
Born on March 22nd, 1931, Hela Mae Allen grew up in the very integrated city of Los Angeles. A multi-faceted achiever, Hela loved the arts and sports like tennis and cheerleading. She excelled at both in high school, where she graduated in the class of 1949.
On July 11th, 1954, Hela married Payne Butler, whom she remained faithful to and beside until he preceded her in death. She now goes to meet him and be reunited in heaven and with God.
She is survived by her children, Byron, Darrell, Dean, and Janet. As well as her grandchildren Christine, Cynthia, David, Nicholas, and Kyle. Although, as those reading this know, they are far from the lives she has changed. Cousin, aunts, uncles, and great grandchildren. One life well lived now lives on in the hearts of a hundred more.
As you read this for the first time in the place where we celebrate the life of a Hela, look to your left and to your right. See the hearts uplifted by Hela and the good she has done and rejoice in a life well lived and rejoice for an angel added to heaven.
Remember the calm, loving words she’d share when trouble plagued our hearts.
Remember her amazing baked goods. Her Apple dumplings, the cakes on our birthdays, the broiled chicken, Thanksgiving turkeys, and so much more.
And remember her stalwart and resolute faith. How God was central to her life from beginning to end and now beyond.
Remember Hela as a story about faith, love, motherhood, and community.
Her legacy lives in the hearts of all who have been blessed to call her family or friend.
A Celebration of Life and Repast will be held at Desert View Funeral Home, 11478 Amargosa Rd, Victorville, CA 92392, on April 17, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
