Raised in Northern California, primarily in Pittsburg, Karina was devoted to her large and well-loved family. She shared an especially cherished bond with her mother, speaking every day, and is survived by her mother, her three brothers—one older and two younger twins—and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her father, whose heritage—Brazilian, Portuguese, and Chinese—remained a proud part of her identity, alongside her Mexican roots on her mother’s side.
From childhood, Karina knew she was meant to teach—often “holding class” for her stuffed animals and family with natural joy and determination. She later fulfilled that calling, earning her Master’s in Linguistics and teaching credentials in English and Spanish. She had a deep love for language, especially Spanish and Portuguese, and a gift for helping others feel seen, understood, and capable.
Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life and marriage. She lived with intention—praying faithfully, loving deeply, and always seeking ways to encourage and uplift others. She and her husband, married on January 18, 2020, built a relationship rooted in devotion, grace, and commitment, striving always to create a space of love, safety, and respect.
Karina had a heart for adventure and a love of travel, exploring places such as Macau, Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala, and other parts of Central America. She also found special joy in going on cruises with her husband—times they treasured to rest, reconnect, and dream together.
She was bold, radiant, and unapologetically herself. Karina delighted in all things pink, sparkly, and beautiful—especially anything Hello Kitty. She loved to dance, with bachata holding a special place in her heart, where her joy and energy came alive.
Though she faced the heartbreak of fertility struggles and loss, she remained ever hopeful and desiring to be a mother. At the time of her passing, she was 13 weeks pregnant with a deeply loved and long-awaited child, filled with both excitement and tenderness for the journey ahead. Her nurturing spirit and love for her child remain a lasting part of her legacy.
Karina touched countless lives with her warmth, strength, and unmistakable spirit. She loved deeply, lived fully, and leaves behind a legacy that will continue to shine in all who knew her.
