Porfirio Landa, or Porfirio Antonio Landa Santos Coy as he often told his grandkids, was born April 19, 1925 in Guadalajara, Mexico to Teofilo Landa and Teresa Santos Coy. He and his twin brother were the middle children out of 7. His mother died soon after his youngest sister was born and his father eventually remarried. Porfirio left his home while a young teenager to live with his oldest sister Beatriz. He worked with her for some time before coming to the United States.
He was advised to join the US Army during World War II. He was Honorably Discharged and soon after married his beloved wife, Ernestine. God blessed them with 13 children; Teri, Porfi, Chata, Cesar, Ray, Donny, Chela, George, Lupe, Lydia, Jaime, Angie and Ben.
Porfirio was very friendly and could strike up a conversation with anyone anywhere, whether he was at the grocery store or in the hospital! He loved going to the movies or as he would call it “the show”. He loved singing and often would make up the words because he forgot how the song went, no matter how many times Ernestine would correct him. He loved entertaining his family with songs, Tarzan impressions, and his stories. He was a fighter until the end, living to the wonderful age of 97. He passed peacefully just a few days after receiving last Sacraments.
He is our Superman.
To honor his Catholic faith, we invite you to pray The Holy Rosary with us. Thank you.
The Landa Family wishes to thank you for your expressions of kindness, sympathy and support during their time of sadness. Burial will take place at 2:00 pm at Riverside National Cemetery 22495 Van Buren Blvd. Riverside, CA 92518 Reception to follow at 3207 Broadmoor Blvd. San Bernardino, CA 92404
