

Gene was born in Rayne and moved to Vinton where he and his wife have lived for the past 54 years. He worked with Dupont of Orange, Texas for 37 years. At work, he was known as E-U-Gene from Ethylene. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Housing Authority. He enjoyed being humorous and very generous man. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1957 and attended Pelican Boys State in his senior year. Gene was a member and served as a Eucharist minister at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a very loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, and loved his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Patricia Braquet of Vinton; four sons, Gregory Braquet of Youngsville, Byron Braquet of Lake Charles, Tim Braquet and wife Cheryl of Orange, Texas, and Thomas Braquet and wife Kristi of Vinton; one twin brother, Gerald Braquet and wife Jeannie of Hamshire, Texas; one sister, Shirley Kay of Youngsville; eleven grandchildren, Blain MeGee and wife Courtney, Cade Braquet, Shawn Braquet and wife Bridgette, Matthew Braquet and wife Hayley, Amy Braquet, Alexa Braquet, Austyn Braquet, Dustin Braquet, Kaitlyn Braquet, Kylie Braquet, and Christopher Braquet and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Robert Braquet, Jr. and Carroll Braquet.
Eugene's funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 19, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vinton. Father Carlos Garcia will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home in Vinton. Visitation is from 5 - 8 p.m. Sunday with a rosary service at 6 p.m. in the funeral home and continue Monday from 8 a.m. The family wishes to express their thanks to all the medical staff at West Calcasieu-Cameron Hospital for their loving care.
