Mary Christine Dolan Chiasson, age 94, of Vinton, Louisiana passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 1, 2021 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on December 25, 1926 to Irish immigrant parents in Waterbury, Connecticut.
Mary graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School in 1944. She donated her time and money to the war effort and held many fundraisers to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Society. Mary married Johnny Chiasson of Vinton in 1955 and was a homemaker and mother. She was one of the founding members for the Catholic Daughters in Vinton where she was a member for 65 years. Mary enjoyed reading, knitting, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Baptiste Chiasson, her parents, James H. and Catherine (McGrail) Dolan, sister, Veronica Dolan, brothers, John Dolan, Francis Dolan, Joseph Dolan, James P. Dolan, and Rev. Justin A. Dolan, M.S., and a great-nephew, John Dolan.
Those left to cherish her memory are sons, John M. Chiasson of Ft. Worth, Texas, Richard A. Chiasson of Vinton, Thomas Chiasson of Bridge City, Texas, and Justin A Chiasson of Vinton; daughters, Veronica (Tim) Leger of Vinton, Catherine Jordan of Beaumont, Texas, and Jamie Simon of Fayetteville, North Carolina; niece, Kathe (Robert) Kaminski of Leitchfield, Connecticut; nephews, James (Lanie) Dolan and Jackie (Karen) Dolan all of Connecticut; twelve grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 2, 2021 in Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. A Rosary will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Visitation will resume at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2021 in Hixson Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vinton. Rev. Carlos Garcia will officiate. Burial will follow in Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly, Louisiana under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton.
Masses or donations may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, St. Mary Catholic School in Orange, Texas, or St. Anne Catholic School in Beaumont, Texas in memory of Mrs. Chiasson.
