Clyde W. Roughton, Jr.

Clyde William Roughton, Jr. went to be with the Lord on November 11, 2012. He was born on November 20, 1934 in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of the late Clyde W. Roughton, Sr., and Mary A. Roughton. After attending Norview High School he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He married Betty on March 6, 1954 in Hertford, NC., and was employed by the City of Norfolk as an Assistant Superintendent of the Utility Division retiring with 36 years of service. He was a member of Gateway Freewill Baptist Church. An avid NASCAR fan, Clyde also loved gardening, exercising and walking his beloved dogs. He was preceded in death by his sister Edna E. Carroll. Clyde will be deeply missed by his family and everyone who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 58 years, Betty L. Roughton of Norfolk; his children, Deanna Roughton, Kevin Roughton, and Douglas Roughton and wife Sara all of Norfolk; 5 grandchildren, Billy Davis and wife Jennifer of Charlotte, NC, Donald Crouse of Charlotte, NC, Michael Crouse of Norfolk, Adam Roughton of Norfolk, and Jade Roughton of Norfolk; 4 great-grandchildren, Lorelai, Adriana, Ryleigh and Ethan; his beloved dog “Oliver” and numerous other loving family and friends.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 7:00 -8:30 PM in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 1:00 PM by Rev. Dale Burden in the funeral home. Burial to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
