

Daniel Shook Sr., passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family Wednesday June 22, 2011 at the age of 68. He was born in Akranes, Iceland May 15, 1943 to the late Ralph and Vigdis Shook of Allentown PA. He joined the U.S Navy in 1961 and served his country for 21 years before retiring as a chief.
Dan worked for Civil Service at FTSCLANT in Norfolk, Virginia from 1982-2005 and then worked for the Virginia Beach City Public School system from 2006-2010. He was an avid sports fan and he enjoyed watching NASCAR.
Dan was a longtime member of the NRA, The Fleet Reserve Association, National Wildlife Federation, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, World Wildlife Fund, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, and Paralyzed Veterans of America and was a loyal member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Dan was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Lily, his two sons Daniel Jr. and James with their respective wives Rhona and Heather; grandchildren William, Danielle, Grace, Gabrielle, Alexandria, Erica and Paolo. He is also survived by his siblings Susi, Sandra, Arni and Jeffrey; brothers and sisters in law Joey and Lydia Arata, Kenneth and Gloria Miller, Leonida, Zenaida and Rufino; and his loving nieces and nephews. He will truly be missed. Mahal na mahal ka namin.
The family will receive relatives and friends on June 30, 2011 from 7-9 pm at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road Virginia Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Spirit Catholic Church by Father Tim Kuhneman on July 1, 2011 at 1 pm. Dan will be laid to rest in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, 3445 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach with full Military Honors. A celebration of his life will follow the burial in Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
