

Donald Lee Ewell died peacefully at home after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease on Saturday, January 10, 2026, with his wife by his side. He was born on May 24, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Marion L. Ewell and Dorothy D. Ewell. He is also predeceased by his first wife Jane Floyd Ewell, and his brother Richard D. Ewell.
Don graduated from Granby High School and Old Dominion University, and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a civil engineer at Atlantic Division Naval Facilities Engineering Command in Norfolk, Virginia, but also had a wealth of knowledge and interest in several different fields. Don was a member of First Baptist Church and volunteered there for many years. He also assisted with coaching youth sports with his children, along with attending the activities they were involved in, as the proud father that he was. Most importantly, Don was very open about his faith in God and always willing to share it with those who wanted to listen.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of nine years, April Ewell; son Wesley and his children Kelsey, Caden and Corynn and their mother Heather Ewell; daughter Kelly (Tim) and her child Jackson; sisters Carol L. Nelson of Denton, Texas, Robin E. Kruger (Jim) of Norfolk, Virginia and Marianne E. Moore (Brian) of Bristol, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend and fur-baby, Holly.
The family is grateful to his caregivers Crystal Arrington, Shenita Matthews, Robbie Spiller and P.J. Padrick for their compassion and support during his illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Talbot Park Baptist Church, 6919 Granby Street, Norfolk, at 11:00 am, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, followed by a reception at the church. After the reception, internment of ashes in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
