

Don was the son of Robert Rhandle and Anna Lucile Lough Kennedy of Harrisonburg, VA.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce Whitmire Kennedy, and brother, Robert Rhandle Kennedy, Jr.
Surviving are four daughters, Debra, Lauren and her husband Rick, Jacqueline and Anna; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, Sister-in-law Betty Kennedy, 3 nieces and 2 nephews.
Don was a Christian and loved the Lord. He loved and adored his wife Joyce and they had 59 years together.
Don was a Mason for 62 years, four months of the Rockingham Union Lodge #27, and a member of the Lynchburg Scottish Rite, and also a member of Acca Temple in Richmond VA.
Don was a Sgt. 1st Class of Company M – Virginia National Guard. Mr. Kennedy was an Elder of Bow Creek Presbyterian Church, also served as Clerk of the Session, also was Trustee, and proudly served on the records committee of Presbytery of Eastern VA.
Don worked at WT Grant and FW Woolworth in Harrisonburg, VA , Casco Ice Plant in Harrisonburg , then he married and went to work at Merck and Co. and then on to Moores Building Supply in Verona, VA and retired from Moores Building Supply in Virginia Beach at age 65.
Don was an avid golfer and was proud of his two hole-in-ones at the Kempsville Golf Association hole #3 and #13. He was past President of the Men’s Golf Associations at both Bow Creek Golf Course and Kempsville and also held a Marshall position there.
Don will be remembered for his laughter,his love of family, and his love of golf, fishing and hunting.
The family would like to thank everyone at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Virginia Beach, and for Medi Hospice for their love, caring and support of both of our parents during the latter years of their lives. It was their “home away from home”. Words cannot express the family gratitude and compassion they have given both Don and Joyce and the family over the last 8 years. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel with a funeral service at 3:00 PM. Burial will be at Fairview Church of the Brethren, New Market, VA
