

Gordon Everett Ham, a devoted husband and father of three children and a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer, succumbed to cancer on September 11, 2012. Mr. Ham was born January 31, 1955 in Baltimore, MD to Clifford Carmichael and Marilyn Packard Ham and was raised in Baltimore, Washington, DC and Pittsburgh, PA.
After working in several occupations including home remodeling and auto mechanics, Mr. Ham joined the Navy and served for twenty years in the sonar technician rate. He served on cruiser and destroyer ships including the U.S.S. Gettysburg, Leyte Gulf, Vella Gulf and Stout. Over his career he was stationed in San Diego and Mare Island, CA, Jacksonville, FL, and Norfolk and Virginia Beach, VA.
Mr. Ham leaves behind his wife Sandra and three children Brittany, Kelsey and Jason of Virginia Beach as well as his mother Marilyn Ham of Towson, MD and his brothers Douglas of Arlington, VA and Gregory of Baltimore.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 pm, Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, September 14, 2012 Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 1396 Lynnhaven Parkway, Virginia Beach. Burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be created in his name for his children's college educations. Please direct questions to Gordon's brothers Doug and Greg.
