
Irene N. Gewet, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, in Virginia Beach, VA. Born in Scranton, PA, Irene lived a life full of love and dedication.
Irene spent many years working as a Bookkeeper for M.E. Wilkins, Inc, where her professionalism and attention to detail were greatly valued. Beyond her career, she was an avid reader, loved cruising on Royal Caribbean, going to Las Vegas with her friends, and was a skilled bridge player. Irene was proud of her achievement of the rank of Junior Master and cherished the camaraderie she found in her bridge circles.
A founding member of the Church of the Ascension, Irene was deeply involved in her church community. She enjoyed many lunches with her group of friends from the church, where her warmth and kindness were always felt. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and guidance.
Irene's family was her greatest pride and joy. She was a loving wife to Frank, her husband and best friend of 66 years. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter. She is survived by her children, Joli Martin (Jeff), Jeff Gewet, Jayme Sutcliffe (Lystre), and Jorene Williams, who will forever cherish her memory.
Her grandchildren, Jeffrey Gewet, Jr., Keith Dasher (Ann), Michael Martin (Carly), Lily Williams, Ella Williams, and Jordan Gewet, were blessed to have her as a guiding light in their lives. Irene's legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Jayme Grace Gewet, Xavier Dasher and Oliver Dasher, who brought her great joy and whom she adored dearly.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Beatrice Needham; and her brother, Thomas Needham Jr.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, February 25th, at Church of the Ascension, 4853 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462, with her inurnment to take place at a later date.
Irene was a true inspiration for strength, embodying grace and resilience throughout her life. Her gentle spirit and unwavering love touched all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and devotion that will be remembered by all whose lives she touched.
