Joan Dunleavey Condon

Joan Dunleavey Condon, 86, passed away in Virginia Beach on Friday, April 26, 2019 to be with her Lord and Savior. Joan was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Francis and Gertrude Dunleavey. The second child in a large Irish family, Joan grew up with 5 brothers. She was predeceased by her brother James Dunleavey. Left to remember her lovingly are her brothers Barry Dunleavey, Philip Dunleavey, Michael Dunleavey and John Dunleavey and their families. Joan met the love of her life and was married in 1954 to Richard S Condon. Together they raised 4 children. Their union lasted for 50 years until his death. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Joan was someone who loved to learn. She was the valedictorian of her high school class. She also attended college after raising her family, earning a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Joan was a woman of strong faith who, despite dementia, could recite the prayers of the rosary up until the time of her passing. She faithfully attended Mass throughout her life and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Joan also enjoyed reading, sewing, crossword puzzles, and having tea with a neighbor. She was a friend to all. Joan is survived by her children Maureen Mike; Claire DeMasi and husband Tony; Michael Condon and wife Gidget; and Patty Handrahan and husband Jim. Joan had nine grandchildren: Lindsay, Philip, Lauren, Matthew, Kerry, Ryan, Hannah, Bridget and Sean. She had seven great grandchildren: Leonel, Jaslene, Wesley, Michael, Samantha, Orion, and Samera. A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 2:30pm, Thursday, May 2, 2019 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. There will be a visitation to greet the family one hour prior at the church. Burial will immediately follow the service at Princess Anne Memorial Park.
