After the agreement of Geneva in 1954, the family moved to South Vietnam and resettled at Thanh Son parish, Gia Kiem. Father Tran studied at the Seminary of St. Joseph, Saigon. He was ordained a Priest April 30, 1973 by Bishop Joseph Le Van An at Ninh Phat Church, Gia Kiem, Long Khanh. Father Tran served as Parochial Vicar at Tan Dinh Parish, Saigon from 1973 to 1975.
After the event of April 30, 1975 of the Vietnam War, he immigrated to the USA and served as the founding Pastor to the Vietnamese Catholic Community of the Diocese of Richmond, Virginia.
Father Tran served in the United States Air Force from 1988 to 2008 and retired as a Chaplain Captain. He also served as a Catholic Chaplain at the Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Beach, Virginia and at 8:44 p.m., February 3, 2016 completed his journey on earth to enter eternity in God’s home.
