Josette A. Schenck

Josette Antoinette Schenck, 85, went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2012. She was born on May 13, 1927 in Cambria, France, the daughter of the late Mathilda and Roger Josso. Josette was enrolled in a nursing school (France) and worked with children in post war France. She immigrated to San Francisco in the 50’s and was employed as a nannie. It is while she was in San Francisco that Josette met the love of her life and married James N. Schenck.

Josette and her beloved Jim loved to travel and as you might say “traveled the world”. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking wonderful meals for her friends and family. Josette was also fond of ceramics and painting, creating many masterpieces for others to enjoy. Josette’s passion was for animals. She was always helping to make sure they were taken care of and was a gracious contributor to most of the local animal relief agencies in the Tidewater Area. Josette was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, James (Jim) N. Schenck.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, James Joseph Schenck of Helena, AL and Peter Thomas Schenck of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Willow, Charlotte and Caroline Schenck and niece Sophie Petiteau and numerous loving friends.

The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2012 in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach, with a funeral service starting at 3:00 p.m. Due to Josette’s great love for animals the family has requested in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to your local SPCA in her name.
