Kristyn Cherie Tate, 40, passed suddenly but peacefully surrounded by family at sunset on August 8th, 2024. She is immediately survived by Robert and Joyce Coates, Grandparents; Daniel and Kimberly Kowalsky, Parents; Benjamin Tate, Husband; Reagan, Daughter; Gavyn, Nephew; Trey Ratliff, Brother and so many more family and friends. Each of them near and dear to her heart.
Kristyn was born November 28th, 1983 in Norfolk, Virginia. She spent her early years growing up in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Bedford, Virginia. From an early age, she developed a love for the outdoors, animals, and a sense of family that she cherished all her days.
It was these passions that led her to numerous volunteer teacher/coach and leadership positions with Great Bridge Baptist (Vacation Bible School Teacher), Virginia Rush (Developmental and Advanced Manager/Coach), Landstown Elementary PTA (Treasurer), Pack 417 (Membership Chair/Secretary) and Troop 471(Committee Chair) - Boy Scouts of America, Gables at Bellamy Condo Association (President), Glen 9- Indian Acres Club of Thornburg (Secretary) and Ombudsman for U.S. Naval Fighter Squadron VF-143.
Through these positions, her own insatiable thirst to be better and ability to self-teach, Kristyn gained a superpower of task completion, time management and organizational aptitude. These attributes led her to excel during her career culminating with the last 15 years at PRA Group most recently as a Financial Controls Testing Analyst and Co-Chair of the Well-Being Employee Resource Group.
All of these titles and roles were special and important to Kristyn. Being Auntie Kristyn to so many kids through the years being there for them during good and difficult times. Ultimately, becoming a Mom. Not through birth, but chosen by such a special girl who needed Kristyn; as much as, Kristyn needed her. She threw herself into being a Mom with the more love and hope for a brighter more adventurous future than ever before. It would be her lasting wish for everyone to continue their own lives with that same vigor, passion, belief and love for all. For her, give yourself grace, hold tight to the little things and love the moments to make them memories.
A visitation for Kristyn will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Smith & Williams Funeral Home/Kempsville, 4889 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, August 16, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Great Bridge Baptist Church, 640 Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23322.
Flowers are beautiful and will be accepted. If you have a cause, organization or passion you would like to donate to in her memory. Please do and share it here on her memorial page. Friends may offer condolences at www.smithandwilliamskempsville.com
