Richard Alan Green, 78, of Virginia Beach, Virginia met our Lord as well as his loving wife, Marian Green, on February 15, 2021 after a long fight with heart and respiratory issues. Richard loved movies, visiting family, friends and new places, reading, NASCAR, bagels, going for drives, volunteering at the hospital and being a caretaker. He had a natural ability to take care of those around him and was very compassionate. He was a tireless and dedicated husband, father, family member and friend. He had a quick sense of humor, was an excellent judge of character, and those who knew him, knew that he could be quite stubborn. Richard was born on August 6, 1942 and graduated from Bladensburg High School in Bladensburg, Maryland. After graduating, he enlisted in the Navy in March of 1961. With a very strong work ethic, he served our country for 31 years in the Navy, receiving such commendations as the Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Navy /E/ National Defense Medal and Sharpshooter Recognition. He retired as a Command Master Chief and continued to serve in the Civil Service until 2013. Richard met the love of his life, Marian, in Bermuda, and they were married in May of 1964. He is survived by his son, Thomas Green and his fiancée Carla Moore both of Virginia Beach, Virginia as well as his grandchildren, Cheyanne White of Eure, North Carolina; Danny Moore of Hampton, Virginia; Caiti Falguera of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Sean Moore of Wilmington, North Carolina. He also had 3 great grandchildren, Ciara White, Owen White, and Carter Buhler of Eure, North Carolina. He is also survived by his daughter, Patricia Moschella, and her husband, Gabriel Moschella, of Seabrook, Texas as well as two grandchildren, Melody Hollingsworth, of League City, Texas, and Gabriel Moschella, of Panama City Beach, Florida. He also had 5 great grandchildren, Hannah Hudson, Isabel Hudson, Reese Hollingsworth of League City, Texas and Abigail Moschella and Valentina Moschella of Panama City Beach, Florida. He is also survived by his sister, Faye Malitz, of Columbia, Maryland, his brother, Ron Malitz of Davidsonville, Maryland, his sister in law, Mary Ann Malitz, of Davidsonville, Maryland, his niece Erin Trevino of Davidsonville, Maryland, and 2 great nieces Brianna Trevino, and Emma Trevino of Davidsonville, Maryland. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. Casual attire is preferred. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Princess Anne Memorial Park, 1110 N. Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Casual attire is preferred. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
