It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Ronald Edward Burroughs, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us on March 30, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on December 25, 1946, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Edgar and Helen Burroughs; Ron's life was a gift that touched the hearts of everyone he encountered.
Ron's early years were spent in the Acredale area of Virginia Beach. He graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1966. He served honorably in the United States Army as a Specialist 5 during the Vietnam Conflict from 1966 to 1972. His bravery and commitment to his country were a testament to his character.
After his military service, Ron continued to reside in Virginia Beach where he was proud to start a family. He was a devoted father of two cherished daughters, Lisa and Jenny. His greatest joy was watching them grow into the strong, loving and compassionate women they are today. He shared a special bond with his only grandson, Dylan, a relationship built on love and shared time. Ron pursued a career as a computer technician; a field he passionately dedicated 50 years of his life to before retiring in 2022. His colleagues knew him as "Super-Tech", a diligent professional with a knack for solving complex problems and a heart full of kindness.
A true enthusiast of life, Ron was a longtime member of the Tidewater Mopar Club, where he shared his love for automobiles with fellow enthusiasts. His passions extended beyond cars; he found joy (and frustration) on the golf course and was a devoted fan of the Washington Commanders (HTTR). Born to fish, he was a dedicated supporter of the local bait shop and a primary benefactor for the fish he fed but never caught. Whether on the boat with family and friends or on the bank, his best times were spent with rod and reel in hand. He loved music, whether he was strumming his guitar, jamming at home or rocking out at live concerts.
Ron had a gift for humor that could brighten anyone’s day. Known for his playful "dad jokes" and infectious smile, he effortlessly brought laughter and joy to every gathering. His cheerful spirit and ability to make those around him laugh made him truly unforgettable.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Helen Burroughs. Left to cherish his memory are his two devoted daughters, Lisa Richardson (Mark) and Jennifer Ramsey (Joshua); his loving sister, Joanna Yates (Robert); his adored grandson, Dylan Richardson; his nieces, Brittany McMichael (Caton) and Ashley Katz (Sean); his nephew, Christopher Yates; his great-nieces and great-nephew and many extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 7th, from 6-8:00 PM, at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23462. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, on Wednesday, April 8th, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby Street, Norfolk, VA 23505, where family and friends will gather to honor a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ronald's memory to the American Heart Association at https://www.heart.org. Your generosity will help continue the fight against heart disease, a cause close to Ron's heart.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff, nurses, and physicians at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital for their kindness and support during Ronald's final days.
Ron will be remembered not only for his accomplishments and passions but for the warmth and laughter he brought into the lives of all who knew him. He has cast his final line and is now fishing where every strike is a keeper. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the memories that will continue to inspire and guide us. In his honor, friends and family are invited to “cast a line”. Rest in peace, Ron; your legacy of love and laughter will remain with us always.
