Steve Holdorff was born July 24, 1953 in La Marque, Texas and died at age 61 on January 30, 2015 in Virginia Beach, Va. Steve grew up in Alvin, Texas and enjoyed his large family, friends, sports and outdoor activities. He was a natural athlete who enjoyed tennis, golf, fishing, bowling and hiking around the country. After graduating from Alvin High School, Steve began his career with NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). During his lengthy government career he traveled the entire United States including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. He visited every state in the union except for Maine.
Steve was a gentle soul who got along with everyone and made no demands of them. He loved his family and throughout his travels, stayed in touch, bringing back rocks, fossils, geodes and other finds as he surveyed our vast and beautiful country. Although he was considered less competitive than some of his siblings, he was a fierce competitor at Scrabble and chess; had a meticulous mind for baseball statistics and player info; and was the first in the family to master Sudoku. He was also a good match for anyone with crossword puzzles and Trivia answers.
Steve expressed his love to his family frequently and will remain in their hearts forever. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Holdorff; his daughter, Aurelia Watkiss and husband, Barry: Jennifer's children, Christopher, Michelle and Brian Hobson; and grandsons, Noah and Preston; his mother, Ingrid Holdorff; his brother, Larry Holdorff and wife, Sharon; his brother, Bruce Holdorff and wife, Patte; his sister, Ruth Ryan and husband, Nolan; his sister, Lynn Shigekawa and husband, Don; eleven step-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.
