Nécrologie de Vernon B. "Dutch" Nye
Vernon B. Nye (Dutch) passed away on March 26, 2021 at Leigh Memorial Hospital. He was 92. Dutch was born on March 8, 1929 in Norfolk Virginia. He graduated from Norview High School in 1946 and then enlisted in the Army where served for 2 years in occupied Japan. After his military service he attended The Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary for 2 years. Following his education, he went to work for Sears Roebuck on 21st St in Norfolk. It was there that he met his beautiful wife of 66 years, Beverly. Dutch and Beverly settled in Norfolk and later moved to Virginia Beach where they raised their two sons and retired. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #38 and remained active in his community. Dutch loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, gardener, woodworker and Virginia Tech sports fan. He spent many happy hours in his boat fishing and crabbing with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Even though he is gone, his presence will live on within the happy times we shared and wonderful memories he has left us all with. Dutch was predeceased by his loving wife, Beverly; his parents, Vernon and Virginia Nye; and brother in law, Lawrence Dougherty. Left to cherish his memory are his sister Mary Lue Dougherty; his two sons, V. Hunter Nye (Beth) and Richard C. Nye (Rosemary); and grandchildren Erin, Hunter and Casey. The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the entire third and fourth floor staff at Leigh Memorial Hospital for all their loving care and support. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk Virginia on April 2, 2021 at 10:00 AM. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
