If I had to use a term to describe Vince it would be "Peace-Keeper." He was kind to everyone and had a dry and incredibly funny sense of humor. I will always be grateful to him for the love he consistently showed to my daughter Jordan and my daughter by marriage Krystal.

Both Susan and I were saddened to hear of Vince’s passing. Please accept our deepest condolences and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. He was such a special gift to all of us in Chapter 20 and it was my honor and blessing in knowing him as I did as a DAV Comrade. Even in this time of sorrow, we can take comfort in the beauty of our faith knowing for Vince, life did not end but only changed.  “Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord: and let perpetual light shine upon him.”  -- Risposa in pace, dear Vince.

Oh, my gosh.  What will we do without Vincent.  He could be gruff.  He could be grumpy.  But he had a heart as big as they come.  He loved to tease with an apple pie, or maybe spoil you with a sausage burrito.  His fare was simple.  His gifts inexpensive.  But know, that like the cowboys in the Western novels he so much enjoyed reading, all the while he was roping you in.  He wanted to befriend you, he just didn’t want to tell you so.  Like a calf roper, Vinny preferred to ride up behind those he liked and rope ‘em the old fashioned way — with love and humor.  He distracted with sarcasm, a practiced grin, and a sideways glance, while adeptly tossing his lariat around friends. With feigned disinterest and a twinkle in his eye, Vincent lassoed those he liked and pulled them close.   He didn’t let friends stray far, nor did they want to.  I think it’s fair to say, Vinny was as skilled at roping people as his favorite author Louis Lamour was at writing western novels.  Thank you Vincent for your humor, your sardonic wit, and your devilish smile.  And, thank you my friend for doing what you did best — you made others around you feel comfortable. 

Vincent was born in 1938 in Ethiopia, Africa.  His parents were from Sicily, Italy. After WWII, Vincent at Age 15 put an abusive childhood behind him and emigrated to the United States, arriving in 1953.  He became a US Citizen 3 years later.  In 1957, when he was 19 years old, Vinny joined the US Navy to see the world — all as he would proudly tell you “on Uncle Sam’s dime.” Always a gentleman, Vincent escaped hardship and found emotional quiet in the engine room of Naval warships. He explained, “There, I had the peace and serenity I desperately needed to survive.  Nobody bothered me.”  Vincent retired from traveling the world and from the Navy 22 years later. 

I shall miss, but not forget, Vincent.  He was truly one of a kind.  He was a lovable man and an immense pleasure to know.  I am proud to say, he was my friend.

Bev and I are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our dear friend. We will miss his smile and humor that only friends can understand. He never let anything upset him and loved to kid around with Bev. He always enjoyed and appreciated Bev's cooking and baking.

I only knew Vince for 1 1/2 years, but he was a very special person to have come into my life at the apartments where all us seniors live.  He was kind, generous and funny.  Out of the mouths of babes: He buried pennies for my granddaughter who is 6 out front so she could find them by the flowers after school when she came to stay at Grandmas in the afternoons, and often gave her little gifts and sometimes my grandson too.  The day after Vince died, she found a nickel by my car as we were getting in, and she looked up and said Vince dropped it down from heaven with a smile.  He will be sorely missed, as he was a huge part of this apartment community's history. I will miss walking by daily and not seeing him in his chair having coffee.  Yes, people say he was old and had a good long life, but it was still cut to short in my book.  Rest in peace my friend!
