

Vincent Barresi, 84 , went to be with the Lord on May 17th, 2023 . He was born November 8th, 1938 in Asmara, Ethiopia, Africa to the late Giacomo and Antonia Barresi. Vincent’s parents were from Sicily and his father served in the Italian Army.
Vincent came to the United States in 1953, settling in New York and became a U.S. Citizen in 1956. One year later he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served for 22 years. After his retirement from the Navy, Vincent worked as a boilermaker at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and retired once again after another 22 years of service.
Vincent was proud of our country and a proud Veteran. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 20, the National order of Trench Rats, and on the board of directors for the Virginia Beach Veterans memorial.
Vincent was a member of the Roma Lodge and took great pride in the Presepio (Italian Nativity) that he had collected and built over the years. He followed the tradition of not placing baby Jesus in the crib until December 25th.
Vincent was preceded in Death by his parents, brother Gaetano, and his devoted friend and companion of 20 years, Ruth Holt.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Gianpeero Ruggeri; his niece, Rosanne Fraumeni; his cousins, Rosario Saraco and Betty Pellicano; Ruth’s Granddaughters, Krystal and Jordan, their children and numerous friends, including his DAV family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans DAV chapter 20, in Virginia Beach Va.
A celebration of life for Vincent will be held Friday, June 2, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Smith & Williams Funeral Home/Kempsville, 4889 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. Following the a celebration of life will be a committal service with military honors at 1:00 PM at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milner’s Rd, Suffolk, Virginia 23434.
