William Thomas Jones Jr., also known as “W.T.” or “No Socks”, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2018 with his loving wife Sharon, family, and K-9 companions Rocko, Bleu, and Lil Buddy by his side. He was born July 10, 1940 in Macon, Georgia. He is predeceased by his parents William Thomas Jones, Sr. and Elline Gardner Jones. W.T. retired after 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy as an MR1. He then went on to retire from the Public Works Center, Norfolk Naval Station. He was a dedicated 41-year member of the American Legion, Post 327 where he served as Past Association President, Past Second District Commander, and Past Post Commander. He was also a dedicated member and Past Grande Chef de Gare Virginia Passe of Voiture 86. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Branch 60 and the VFW. W.T. will be remembered for how he served as a leader and mentor to anyone with an interest in promoting the betterment of these organizations. He truly loved his country and his family. No one could have asked for a better husband, father, grandfather, or friend. He was a gentle giant with a true gift of gab. He always saw the best in everyone and never knew a stranger. Special thank you’s to Kay Alexander, CNA; Samual Grisley, a loyal friend, who checked on him constantly; and to New Century Hospice.
