Zachary Logan Caviness Barker was born at Virginia Beach General Hospital on April 27, 1993. His parents, Keith and Aleta Barker were thrilled to welcome this precious baby boy into their family. They were especially delighted when they discovered what a content baby Zachary was and how much he loved to sleep! If practice makes perfect, Zachary would become and an expert sleeper. As a toddler he never really learned how to walk; instead, he learned to run and run he did. This child was fearless, loved speed, and went full throttle into life. Zachary ran through elementary school at Point of View, Larkspur and Brandon Middle School, and graduated from Tallwood High School in 2011 where he also received recognition from the Advanced Technological Center for Electronics.
His first job out of High School was working at Pizza Hut, which included another love of Zachary's life, food. Nobody could make scrambled eggs like his Pawpaw and his mother's homemade sloppy joes served over cheese toast would actually cause Zachary to stop a night out with his friends to come home for dinner and catch up with them when he had finished what he described as the best thing he had ever eaten. Zachary loved his sister, Zoey, and played loving with her, chasing and running after her. Perhaps, he was hoping that she, too, would make something good for him to eat:
Zachary moved on from the food industry and joined the team at Dish Network. He was a hard worker and was even called to New York to help with the recovery after a devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. Having grown up in Virginia Beach, on and around the ocean, Zachary loved anything to do with water, boats, jet skis and speed. He eventually went to dive school in Florida and worked for Crofton Diving Corporation in Portsmouth, Virginia. Just recently, Zachary landed his dream job to work on a tugboat. He was excited about this new chapter of his life and thankful for the opportunity to start something new.
Zachary leaves behind his loving parents, Keith and Aleta Barker, and his sister, Zoey; his maternal grandparents Darrell and Linda Caviness, a great-grandfather, V.J. Caviness, Aunt Jeannie Stafford and husband, Rick, Uncle Darrell Caviness, II and wife Melissa, Aunt Destiny Franklin and husband Mike. Zachary loved his cousins; Jake, Rebecca, Rachel, Sage, Hunter, Raina, Daniel, Austin, Blake and Brianne. He has many other great aunts and uncles and friends that became like family to him over the years. Zachary never met a stranger, was a loyal and dedicated friend, and understood the gift of living in the moment. His presence will be missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and loved him.
