Bernice Wilson, 94, who often stated the world was her classroom, passed June 17, 2015. She was born in Huntington Park, California. Her parents were Harry and Myrtle Cederlind. She was always eager to learn and test new adventures. Bernice was both friendly and an interesting person. She attended all four years of high school in Tulare, California. After graduating from Los Angeles City College, she began her career as secretary to the Commander of Rankin Academy during WWII where she met her future husband, Scotty Wilson, now deceased. After he received his wings, she traveled with him to many bases during his career as an officer in the United States Air Force. The years were exciting and she was always eager to learn about the people and their traditions in many parts of the United States and the world.
She continued to work for the Air Force after her husband’s death until she retired. Especially exciting to her were the years in Los Angeles with the Space Division where the research and development of the United State Space Programs for the Department of Defense were planned. She received many outstanding awards for her contributions.
Her love of traveling took her all over the world with many interesting experiences everywhere. She liked to talk about her special elephant, camel, balloon, glider, white water and sleigh rides.
Bernice loved the arts and volunteered with the L.A. County Museum of Art for many years. She was always faithful and gave of her time and talents to her church, Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
John Cederlind, her brother, was killed during WWII when his plane was shot down over Germany.
She is survived by her children, Jennifer Scott and Scott Wilson; her grandchildren, David Backus, Laura Gendron and Kristiana Wilson; and her great grandchildren, Curtis, Carlee and Cole Gendron.
