Dona Rae McClure

Dona was born in Caddo County, Oklahoma on November 30, 1917 to Rufus and Lula Carter. She was raised and educated in Oklahoma and then moved to Texas as a young woman. She met and married Gene McClure in Clovis, New Mexico on March 30, 1935 and they made their home in Mule Shoe, Texas. In 1941, Gene and Dona moved to Tulare, California to make their home and raise their family. They owned and operated a custom harvesting business. Dona was a member of the Church of Christ. Gene preceded her in death in March of 1999. She was a member of the Tulare Historical Society. Dona had a great sense of humor and always had a great comeback for you. She enjoyed shopping and sewing. Her family was her hobby and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. But her great great grandchildren exceeded the others in the joy they brought to her. Dona will be greatly missed by her family.

She was also preceded in death by one brother Harvey Carter; two sisters Onie Bradshaw and Mary Jane Baker; daughter Darlene Van Hooser; two sons-in-law Loren Rush and Ralph Van Hooser and her great grandson Justin Barnett.

Dona is survived by, her daughter Freida Rush of Tulare, five grandchildren, Angela Beck (Richard), Karen Barnett (Joe), Dale Rush (Beckie), Vicki Ridenour (Kevin) and Greg Van Hooser (Melinda); five great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren, sister-in-law Mary Jo Miller and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all who provided tender care to Dona during her illness.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 a 10:30 am at Tulare District Cemetery, 900 E. Kern St in Tulare, CA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dona’s name to the Tulare Historical Museum or the donor’s favorite charity.
