Donald Akin passed away March 21, 2022 at the age of 86. Don was born September 9, 1935 to John and Pearl Akin of Ivanhoe CA. He is survived by his children, Melissa Davis, Jennifer Dunn, John Akin, and Jeff Akin. Don is also survived by his sister Evelyn Batchelor. He was Uncle Donny to numerous nieces and nephews and Poppa Don to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Donald grew up in Ivanhoe and went to Visalia Senior High School. He went to COS and graduated with a degree in education from Fresno State University. Don was a standout football player in high school, COS, and Fresno State. He loved football and enjoyed watching his boys and grandkids play football. He was an active community member of Ivanhoe and Visalia. Don was involved at Ivanhoe Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church of Visalia, Ivanhoe Volunteer Fire, and Golden West High School’s opening.
Don was a Christ-follower and loved the Lord with all his heart and soul. He touched many lives through his witness for Christ, Bible studies, youth groups, college students, and adult ministry. His passion was to reach the lost for Christ and he continued that passion up until the very end.
He will be dearly missed.
Donald’s funeral service will be held at Gateway Church of Visalia, 1100 S Sowell St, Visalia, CA 93277, on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 10:30 am.
