

Don was born to Alda and John Daetweiler in Visalia, CA on October 9, 1929 and passed away on Monday, January 25. They moved to Lynwood/ Compton, CA when Don was two and back to the Visalia area when he was 14. He attended Visalia High School where he graduated in 1948. He then attended College of the Sequoias and graduated from Fresno state with a degree in criminology. He met the love of his life Virginia Cameron at Nielsen’s Drive-In Restaurant in Tulare. Legend has it that he tipped her fifty cents for a ten cent Coke and she questioned his motives. Don and Ginny were married on June 16, 1952 and were happily married for 60 years.
Don worked for Tulare County Probation and then as a California State Parole Officer/ Supervisor and State Parole Hearing Officer collectively for over forty years.
Don and Virginia have 3 children: Elaine Ables of Exeter (and husband Doug Ables), Eldon Daetweiler of Fresno, and Jeff Daetweiler of Fresno; two grandchildren Eric Schwamb and Jackie Riffle (and husband Mike Riffle), two step-grandchildren Rhonda Bueno (and husband Randy Bueno), and Arlon Ables (and wife Wendy Ables), and great grandchildren Charlotte Riffle, Catherine Riffle, Caitlin Riffle, Shaye Bueno, Payton Bueno, Mya Ables, Mavryk Ables, and Mazy Ables. They also have many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Alda and John Daetweiler, parents-in-law Alice and Dewey Cameron, infant children John, Gerald, and Mary Daetweiler, and his loving wife Virginia with whom he is now happily reunited.
Visitation will be 4:00-6:00pm Wednesday, Feb 3 at Miller’s Memorial Chapel, 1120 Goshen Ave, Visalia, with rosary at 6:00pm. Service will be Thursday Feb 4 10:00am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Visalia followed immediately by graveside service at the Visalia Cemetery, and then a luncheon at Miller Memorial Chapel.
The family would like to thank all the dedicated medical professionals and caregivers who cared for Don during his illness. He was loved greatly and will be dearly missed. Until we meet again, Big D.
