Ernie Byron Shanes

Ernie was born in Exeter, California on October 23, 1948 to Carl and Delia Shanes. He was raised and educated in Woodlake, California, graduating from Woodlake High in 1966 and was a member of the Woodlake Tigers Football Team. Ernie continued his education at Fresno State, earning his Master’s in Business Administration in 1971 and taught several Real Estate classes at College of Sequoia over the years. Ernie has been the owner of Kaweah Delta Mortgage Company for over 30 years. He attended St. Clements Episcopal Church of Woodlake. He was an avid hunter and shooter. Ernie also enjoyed photography, genealogy, was a master chef and enjoyed traveling to China, Canada and Alaska. He was a charter member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Woodlake Rotary Club and Visalia Elks Lodge.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Delia and by his brother, Carl Shanes, Jr.

Ernie leaves to cherish his memory, his nephews, Cary Shanes of Fresno, CA and Craig Shanes of Clovis, CA; his niece, Kelly Kress of Newberry Park, CA; his sister-in-law, Reba Shanes of Bakersfield, CA and many extended family members and friends in Visalia and Woodlake.

Ernie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Avenue in Visalia, California.

Remembrances may be made to Visalia Elks Lodge, Woodlake Rotary Club, National Rifle Association , or Salvation Army in Ernie’s honor.
