Born Lena May Kuuipoialohaia Rogers, December 16, 1938 in the township of Wahiawa in the U.S Territory of Hawaii. She passed away peacefully, April 16, 2022 at Kaweah Transitional Care Service in Visalia CA, at the age of 83.
Lena grew up in Wahiawa with her sister Mary, her father George and mother Anona. Growing up as an army brat they moved around a lot. Living mostly in Hawaii where she witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor; Panama, where they lived in a house on stilts because of the snakes; Chico CA where she graduated H.S & Attended Chico State, Seaside CA, Seattle WA & eventually back to Hawaii. During which time she held various office jobs, sang in various bands in Hawaii and even spent time as a taxi dancer until she realized some guys wanted more than just a dance. She would do anything to raise her children... ALMOST. Lena had a beautiful voice and was an excellent dancer. She could do anything from the jitterbug to the waltz but her hula dance was especially beautiful. Following her heart she settled in Visalia CA in 1965. She eventually got into the food and beverage industry and realized you could raise three children if you were good and she was one of the best. Serving the public for 40 years, she loved the people she worked with and served and of course they loved her.
After retiring she moved to The Town Meadows Senior High Rise where she loved to do her puzzles, visit the senior center and loved to play cards, pinochle, and bridge. She became an excellent player. She loved her fellow card players and her friends at Town Meadows and of course, they loved her.
She was a loving and caring person who gave to many charities. She was especially fond of children and animal charities.
Lena was proceeded in death by her father George, mother Anona, daughter Julie, son-in-law Baron, daughter-in-law Debbie and brother-in-law Larry.
She is survived by her son Michael, daughter Desiree, granddaughter Nicole and her husband Kelly, grandson Steven, great grandchildren Julie, Beverly, Brandon, Cameron and her sister Mary.
Funny thing about her name, Lena May, grandma Anona was going to name her Jaqueline but Auntie Lady filed the paperwork and liked the name Lena May, and needless to say grandma was quite upset. She eventually got over it and learned to love the name… we think
