Louise Grace DeVries, 78, of Visalia, went to be with her Lord September 16, 2013, after a year long struggle with cancer. She was born in Artesia, CA, on June 19, 1935, to John and Effie Christoffels. In 1955, she married the love of her life, Cornelius (Case) DeVries and they stayed faithfully married for 57 years. In 1964 they moved to Porterville where Louise worked for the Porterville Unified School District as Head Cook at Monache High School for 28 years. Case and Louise were one of the charter members of the Visalia Christian Reformed Church. She loved to serve others and did so in many ways. She served as the church organist, sang in the choir, worked at Used Treasures and always
provided a helping hand when needed. Case and Louise loved traveling together and spending time with their family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband Cornelius, her children, Linda (Mike) Brown, Evonne (Randy) Gibson and Casey (Mary) DeVries, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, her brother Evert (Marie) Christoffels and her sister Gertrude (Gary) Bothof. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Miller Memorial Chapel from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A celebration of Louise's life will be held at Visalia Christian Reformed Church Friday, September 20, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
